Two Arborists Killed While Breaking Down Pickathon’s Shade Installation

UPDATE 8/13/19 – The two men who died at Pendarvis Farm last weekend have been identified. 35-year-old Bradley Swet and 27-year-old Brandon Blackmore were taking down a Guildworks array when they fell. GuildWorks is a design, fabrication and installation firm.

Swet had been an independent contractor with GuildWorks for seven years, according to a release. He was a Certified Arborist, owned Foster Trees and was the tree crew lead for Pickathon for the last three years. Blackmore had worked for GuildWorks for two years.

Happy Valley, OR – Two men, who were described as arborists were killed when the boom lift they were using overturned.

According to a news release, the incident occurred around 4:30 pm on August 8th, when two workers were “ascending in a boom lift before climbing further up trees to get to ropes holding up the complex shade installation.

“They were wearing safety equipment and were roped to the boom lift, which was reportedly positioned on an incline. The arborists were approximately 40 feet in the air when the boom lift tilted and fell. The arborists, still roped to the boom, were pulled to the ground with considerable force. Attempts at CPR were unsuccessful.”
