Sebastian, FL – 74-year-old Bradford Kay died in what police said was a tree-cutting accident.
Police and fire rescue officials said they were called to a home shortly before 3 p.m. by a 911 caller who reported a man was trapped under a fallen tree.
Sebastian Police Department spokesman Lt. Timothy Wood said, Kay was using a chainsaw with the help of a neighbor to cut down a pine tree on his property when the tree shifted unexpectedly and fell on him.
Kay was pronounced dead at Sebastian River Medical Center. He was a retired Indian River State College biology professor who previously worked with the CDC and WHO studying infectious diseases.
