Parkville, MD – A 20-year-old man was injured in an accident involving a wood chipper.
Early reports stated that the man fell “into or onto” a wood chipper. As more information became available emergency personnel confirmed that the man was injured while on the ground.
The victim was critically injured when he became entangled in a rope that pulled tautly, officials said.
The rope became caught in the chipper, pulling him against against the chipper; but he was not injured by the blade of the chipper. The injury was caused by the tightness of the rope, officials confirmed.
Officials said emergency personnel provided immediate critical care. The patient was flown by Maryland State Police helicopter to Shock Trauma.
Initial reports said the man had lost his entire left arm. Fire spokeswoman Elise Armacost on Friday said she could not confirm the exact details surrounding the man’s injuries, citing patient privacy.
