Man crushed after backyard lift falls on top of him

Keithville, LA – 45-year-old Jose Paramo died early Tuesday after he was crushed by a piece of equipment.

According to the Caddo Parish Sheriff’s Office, emergency crews responded to a call for assistance around 8:12 AM and found another uniformed officer already there helping the Asplundh Tree Service crew members physically lift a 2019 Backyard Bucket power lift off a man who was trapped underneath it.

The Sheriff’s office stated that Paramo became pinned underneath the backyard lift when it slid off a trailer that was in a ditch, causing it to be unlevel. Paramo was using a remote control to remove the power lift from the trailer that was attached to an Asplundh work truck.

A police officer and Asplundh crew member used two car jacks to lift the equipment off Paramo. Emergency personnel administered CPR before Paramo was transported to the hospital.

He was pronounced dead at 8:47 AM at Ochsner LSU Health hospital.
