Greenfield, WI – 66-year-old Marvin Hayes died Monday when a tree fell on him.
Greenfield Fire-Rescue units responded to the scene around 2:15 PM for the report of a person trapped under a fallen tree. Crews worked to free Hayes from under the tree and he was tended to by Greenfield Fire-Rescue paramedics, Greenfield Fire Chief Jon Cohn said, but died.
According to the investigation report from the Milwaukee County Medical Examiner’s Office, Hayes, died when a large, dead tree he was cutting down in his backyard fell on top of him and pinned him underneath.
Hayes, a retired GE Healthcare worker, was cutting down a tree he had attempted to cut down the day before, but it had become hooked on another tree. He was trying to get the dead tree off the one it landed on when the accident occurred.
