Clermont County man killed in a tree-trimming accident

Franklin Township, OH – 67-year-old George Steven Shelton died Sunday while trimming trees in Franklin Township.

According to a report, emergency personnel arrived at the scene around 1:06 PM and found George Shelton Jr. attempting to retract a Genie man lift that his father was inside.

George Shelton Sr. was helping his son trim and remove a number of trees from a property. Shelton was operating the man lift in order to cut sections from the top of trees, allowing them to drop the ground. While cutting top sections of a tree, a tree trunk approximately 10 feet in length fell and landed on Shelton while he was in the bucket of the man lift. Shelton was approximately 50 feet off the ground.

Emergency personnel were unable to get the lift to retract down far enough to remove Shelton from the bucket and had to call in a ladder truck.

The AirCare doctor on the scene pronounced Shelton dead at 2:15 PM.
