Vermont town worker injured clearing storm debris

Fairfax, VT – 61 year old D. Jay Leach was injured cleaning up after a violent windstorm hammered Vermont. Leach was part of a team clearing fallen trees that were blocking a busy part of Fletcher Road. When he was cutting and removing a tree, it somehow snapped and hit him. A co-worker, who was also an EMT, tended to Leach right away.

Leach’s son Jay said his dad suffered brain swelling, a broken sternum and ribs, and early Wednesday morning, got out of a spinal fusion surgery at the University of Vermont Medical Center in Burlington.

Leach is the highway department foreman and a town worker who has been employed with them for more than 30 years.
