Unconscious man rescued from a tree 35 feet from the ground

Jackson, MI – 64 year old C Backus was rescued from a tree after suffering a diabetic episode. Backus was trimming the tops of his trees like he does every 5 – 10 years. While up the tree his blood sugar dropped dramatically. He was speaking incoherently, prompting his roommate, who was monitoring him, to call 911. With a storm fast approaching firefighters acted quickly to retrieve Backus from the tree. He was up the tree with no harness, an electric chainsaw with an extension cord, and laying across a couple branches. Backus was successfully rescued from the tree. After only one day at Henry Ford Allegiance Health, he is home and still planning on finishing the trimming.
