Elizabethtown, TN – Mark Bruner of Greeneville was injured Wednesday afternoon when a dead tree that had not been cut by a crew fell and struck him on the head.
When police arrived, they found Bruner lying in the road. A dead tree was lying in a ditch near him.
Workers told Sgt. Travis Ludlow of the Carter County Sheriff’s Department that they were not working on the tree that fell. A warning was shouted, but Bruner was still hit by the falling tree. Ludlow said Bruner was wearing his helmet at the time. He said the helmet was lying next to Bruner on the road when he arrived.
Ludlow said Bruner was disoriented and kept asking what had happened. He was checked by the Carter County Rescue Squad and taken down the mountain by ambulance.
Ludlow reported that the crew worked for Trees Inc., of Houston, Texas.
