Tree worker electrocuted while working in a tree in Columbus

Columbus, OH – A 27-year-old tree worker has died of electrocutions while trimming a tree. According to a neighbor, the man was 30 feet up a tree when he suddenly asked his crew on the ground for help.

Columbus firefighters were called at 1:06 PM and responded to the Forestview Drive house. Battalion Chief Steve Martin stated it was difficult to extract the man from the tangle of tree limbs and utility lines. Electric crews were able to turn the power off and a firefighter determined that the man was dead at 1:30 PM.

Martin said initial indications are that a limb dipped, possibly sending an electrical charge through the tree and into the worker.

The tree trimming company consisted of a father, two sons and two cousins. The victim’s identity was not released on Wednesday.
