46-year-old Daniel Wynn Smith died when palm fronds collapsed on him. Smith was clearing palm fronds 25-30 feet up a palm tree when they collapsed. Emergency crews responded to the scene and rescued the man within 15 minutes. He was transported to a nearby hospital where he died later that night. The Clark County coroner’s office determined that Smith had methamphetamine and ecstasy in his system when he died. He died from suffocation and chest compression.
