Tree Removal Workers Leg Amputated After Accident Near Crystal Lake

Crystal Lake, IL – An unidentified tree company worker was severely injured in an accident near Crystal Lake. Fire crews arrived at the scene and found a man that had an amputated leg after a work accident.

According to McHenry County Sheriff’s Deputy Sandra Rogers, one worker had been using a stump grinder while another was holding a tension in a rope as a tree was cut down. The man holding the rope moved, and the slack from the line got pulled into the grinder. The rope then wrapped around the victim’s leg, which got pulled him into the grinder, causing the lower part of his leg to be amputated.

The man was airlifted to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville in serious but stable condition.
