Tree climber injured after falling 50 feet when a tree snaps

Mystic, CT – A 25-year-old unidentified tree climber was injured when a tree he was climbing snapped and fell.

According to Ken Richards, chief of the Old Mystic Fire Department, the man had climbed the tree on a residential property to cut the top off. After he cut the top, the tree snapped 30 feet below him and toppled over onto a nearby shed.

Reports say that the man fell approximately 50 feet.

The department was called to the scene at 8:16 a.m. Firefighters worked to pull the tree off the man and extract him from the shed.

The man was flown by Life Star to Hartford Hospital in serious condition.
