Tree climber dies in fall after tree fails

UPDATE 4/16/18 – The victim has been identified as 28-year-old Eris Banegas-Gomes.

Trumbull, CT – A 28-year-old man from Bridgeport died after he fell approximately 45 feet out of a tree. The accident happened at 9 AM Saturday morning. According to Trumbull Police Lt. Keith Golding, “The man was wearing a climbing harness and climbed to the top of the tree, approximately 45 feet up. He then began removing the top portion of the tree when the tree broke off at its base. The tree, with the worker still attached, fell directly to the ground.”

Co-workers at the scene immediately called 911 and provided aid to the fallen worker. When emergency personnel arrived, the man was transported Bridgeport Hospital where he died of his injuries.
