Tree climber dies after climbing harness fails

Ogden Dunes, IN – 70-year-old John McMeans died after he fell while trimming a very large pine tree.

According to reports, McMeans was working as a tree contractor trimming a tree when he fell 40 – 50 feet out of the tree. Chief Jim Reeder believes the accident may have been due to a failure of the safety belt harness strap the victim was using.

McMeans was taken to Methodist Hospitals Northlake Campus in Gary, where he died from his injuries.
