The STIHL MS400 C-M, a saw with the worlds first magnesium piston

The new MS 400 C-M is the world’s first chainsaw with a magnesium piston.

According to STIHL the MS 400 C-M chainsaw has been designed with professionals in mind and offers STIHL’s highest performance in the 60cc class. The chainsaw has more displacement, more power, more torque, and only weighs a little more compared to the STHIL MS 362 C-M.

The larger displacement of 66.8cc in the new 2-MIX engine provides 4kW of power and 4.1 Nm of torque. The MS 362 C-M produces 3.5kW of power and 3.5 Nm of torque. The magnesium piston is also 14% lighter than the aluminum piston in the MS 362 C-M.

The STIHL MS 400 C-M has an impressive power-to-weight ratio of 1.45 kilograms per kilowatt.

The saw retails for £1,080.00 with a 16-inch bar according to STIHL’s European website.

This saw is not available in the United States yet.
