Teen helping with storm cleanup killed by falling tree in western Wisconsin

UPDATE 8/19/19 – A news release from the Barron County Sheriff’s Department identified the victim as 14-year-old. Floyd Lehman of Melrose, WI. It also added that another person had been cutting down the tree that hit Lehman. The falling tree struck him in the head.

Chetek, WI – An unidentified teenager died while cleaning up storm-damaged trees.

According to Barron County Sheriff Chris Fitzgerald, a group of people were cleaning up trees damaged by storms earlier this summer.

“Preliminary investigation shows the teen was assisting in storm clean up with a large group of people when he did not see a tree coming down and it struck him,” Fitzgerald said. “Life-saving measures were attempted but the teen passed away at the scene.”

The sheriff’s department said the teen was from out of the area. While relatives have been notified, the teen’s name was not immediately released.
