Salem man dies in logging accident near Lyons

Lyons, OR – 55 year old Jerry Sramek died after he was struck by a large log. Sramek was a contracted independent truck driver and had just loaded logs from a logging site. An investigation revealed that Sramek stopped to re-secure the load on the trailer about four miles from the landing site where it was loaded. When he undid the forward chain, a log about 20 feet long and 10 inches in diameter fell from the top of his trailer, resulting in fatal head and neck injuries. Sramek was wearing all the correct protective gear and was found at 11:30 am by another truck driver.
