Ocala man found slumped over an enclosed platform died doing tree work

Ocala, FL – 70-year-old Charles Lindsey was found deceased, slumped over an elevated enclosed platform. Marion County Sheriff’s Office Detective Aaron Levy concluded that Lindsey’s death was an accident while performing tree work.

A call to 911 was made after a woman spotted Lindsey slumped over the platform. She had called to him but he did not respond. Deputies arrived and said that the platform was approximately 30 feet in the air and it appeared Lindsey was doing tree work. Firefighters arrived and pronounced him dead at 2:37 PM.

Deputies who examined the area found two ropes, one of them secured to a tree with a chain and hook. The other rope had a hook attached to it. Deputies believe the ropes may have been used to provide tension to the area of the tree Lindsey was trimming.

Investigators believe a portion of the tree Lindsey was trimming struck him on top of his head and his face struck the safety cage bar.
