Rogers, MN – 45-year-old Will Hammer is lucky to be alive after being trapped underwater after the lift he was moving tipped over. The incident happened shortly before 12 PM when authorities were alerted to a piece of heavy equipment that had fallen into an icy storm pond. Hammer was pinned underneath the lift when it tipped on a slippery incline.
Hammer’s chin and nose were barely above the waterline while first responders used a front-end loader to upright the machine. The first attempt caused the lift fall further into the water so the crew came up with a new plan. They then used a tow truck anchored to the front end loaders and began to upright the lift. The attempt was successful. They were able to free Hammer’s arm that was trapped and keeping him under the water.
Hammer is recovering at the hospital with a broken pelvis, major injuries to his right arm and facial injuries.
