Man falls 40 feet after climbing harness fails

28 year old Scott Alan Redding fell 40 feet out of a tree on Monday. Redding was ascending a tree to trim it at a private residence in York Township. He was secured to the tree with a rope and a harness when the bridge of his climbing belt broke in half. It is unclear why the bridge broke at this time but an investigation is ongoing by MIOSHA. Redding’s climbing saddle was 7 years old. He fell 40 feet onto a wooden deck below. CPR was performed on scene before he was transported to a nearby hospital. Redding died later that evening. He was an employee of Urban Foresters out of Ann Arbor.
