Man electrocuted after trying to retrieve branch that had fallen on wire

UPDATE 8/20/19 – Terry Blacketer, the mother of Zachary Franke, filed a claim against the city of Lincoln in the amount of $1,000,000.

The claim alleges negligence of Lincoln Electric System and its third-party contractor for “failing to trim branches of tree on property of Terry Blacketer.”

After LES declined to trim the trees, the claim states, Franke decided to do it and was electrocuted by a nearby power line.

Lincoln, NE – 36-year-old Zachary Franke died while trying to trim a tree in his backyard. Lincoln police stated he was trying to retrieve one of the limbs that had fallen on a power line. Upon arriving, emergency crews found Francke up in the tree, deceased. He was brought down from the tree and nearby power lines were de-energized.

The tree was also set on fire during the incident.
