Logger seriously injured by falling tree

Newcomerstown, OH – 31-year-old Leroy A. Stutzman was seriously injured when he was struck by a falling tree.

According to a report, Stutzman was struck in the back by an estimated 60-foot tall cherry tree just before 2:30 PM on Thursday.

“I’ve been in the woods for 35 years and I’ve never seen anybody hit that hard,” said Nelson Miller, who was working alongside Stutzman. “It was a little scary for a while, but I couldn’t believe how quick those guys (emergency responders) were there. They were great.”

Stutzman was transported to Newcomerstown High School where he was loaded into a medical helicopter. He was then flown to the hospital also known as Akron City Hospital.

According to Miller, Stutzman also suffered fractures to both shoulder blades and six ribs making it difficult for him to breathe.
