Logger pinned by tree at mining site

A man clearing timber at a mining site was injured when a tree fell on him. Coworkers helped the man until the first responders could reach the location because it was deep in the woods. Assistant Chief John Sommers, who is also chief of the department’s EMS division, was injured during the rescue operation. The victim was on a steep hillside and during the rescue Sommers fell approximately 50 feet down the hillside. The injured man was airlifted to Charleston Area Medical Center. Sommers was taken to Princeton Community Hospital where he was treated and later released.
