82 year old Burdett Gibbs was cutting down a large tree in wooded area with a friend, 86 year old Russell Stuckey. Gibbs was dropping the tree and it began falling in an unintended direction. Gibbs was struck in the head by the tree and it left him bloody and unresponsive. His friend, Russell Stuckey called 911 and aided Gibbs until help arrived. According to Sandusky County Sheriff’s report, Gibbs cut through the tree and believed it was going to fall in certain direction so he turned his back and began to walk away. He did not notice that the tree was not falling in the intended direction but was falling directly at him. Gibbs was transported to St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center where he remains in critical condition.
