Kentucky man killed in a logging accident

New Market, TN – 31-year-old Kenneth Shain Wheeler died on Thursday when a tree he was cutting fell on top of him. Wheeler and his co-worker Jerry Fuson were logging approximately one mile into the woods. Fuson told Police that Wheeler had cut a tree that became lodged in another tree. He attempted to dislodge the first tree by cutting another to make it fall. Instead of falling to the ground the tree broke free, slide down the trunk of the felled tree and landed on top of Wheeler.

Fuson who was working nearby saw that the tree went the wrong way and immediately went to check on Wheeler. He found him underneath the tree, pinned from the neck up, with no pulse. Fuson said Wheeler apparently had no time to react before the tree fell on him.

Other workers with the logging company had hooked cables to the tree and removed it using a bulldozer. When authorities arrived they pronounced Wheeler dead at the scene.

The accident victim was an employee of Dale Seals Logging Company of Sneedville, which had been cutting trees on the acreage in the Quarry Road area.
