Johnston County tree trimmer killed in 65 foot fall

Selma, NC – 65 year old Kenneth Earl Vick died while removing trees Monday morning. Vick was co-owner of Country Boy Tree Service and was hired to remove 10 pine trees from a residential property. The company had removed 9 pine trees last week and had returned to finish the job. Vick was approximately 65 feet up in the bucket of an aerial lift when a 25 foot section of the tree, he had just cut, struck the arm of the machine. The sudden impact ejected Vick from the lift. He was working with two employees at the time of the accident who were on the ground and are uninjured. Vick was pronounced dead at the scene. Selma Police and OSHA are investigating the accident. Officials are also looking into whether windy conditions may have played a contributing factor.
