Hancock County man killed by falling tree branch

Greenfield, IN – 70 year old Robert “Ted” Smith was killed when a tree branch fell on him. Preliminary reports say that Smith was cutting up a tree when the tree split and a branch fell and struck him in the head. Smith’s family said that he went out to chop wood on a weekly basis for exercise. They also said that Smith left around 3:30 pm to go cut up wood and when he did not return at sun down his wife became worried. She contacted nearby friends who discovered his body later in the woods.
