Experienced arborist falls 20 feet out of a tree

Woodburn, OR – 63-year-old Robert Nibler was injured after he fell 20 feet out of a Sweetgum tree.

Nibler was crown raising trees on Oregon Way and was working on his third tree of the day. For unknown reasons his climbing rope just “let go” and he fell 20 feet to the pavement below.

“I don’t know. I’ll have to look at the gear to see it. I was hanging on a rope and it just let go,” Nibler said of the mechanical failure. “I’ve spent a lot of time thinking about it.”

Emergency personnel had to cut the climbing harness off of Nibler because of his extensive injures. He received a broken right arm, broken hips and a shattered right leg.

Nibler stated he has over 45 years of experience in the tree care industry.
