Climber dies after being struck by falling tree

West Branch, MI – 24 year old Jared Kaltenbach died in a tree trimming accident at a private residence near intersection of State Road and M-33. According to a report released by the Michigan State Police, Kaltenbach was working with an assistant on a tree removal job. He was attempting to fell a tree when the trunk broke, struck Kaltenbach and caused fatal injuries. Kaltenbach was wearing a climbing harness and a hard hat. He was secured to the tree approximately 50 feet above the ground. Emergency personal waited for a bucket truck in order to assist and bring the worker down from the tree, and assess his condition. The man was pronounced dead at the scene.
