Arborist falls 30 feet after disturbing wasp nest

Shepparton, Australia – A 37-year-old Coffs Harbour man fell 30 feet out of a tree at around 11:30 AM on Wednesday. Reports suggest that a faulty harness and wasp nest were the cause of the fall.

The man, who worked for an electric company, was climbing a tree to trim limbs away from power lines. While he accessed the tree a wasp nest was disturbed. The man was harnessed into the tree at the time but police stated that the climbing harness came loose and he fell down a steep embankment which made it difficult for EMS. The man was transported to the hospital in a stable condition with suspected spinal injuries.

A WorkSafe representative was on site and said the cause of the fall would be investigated.
